It's very interesting stuff. It's actually because of gravity. The setup is displacing the center of gravity from both objects because of their relationship to one another, so that the center of gravity is actually in the empty space below the edge of the table.
A shape's center of gravity does not have to lie within the shape's physical dimensions.

The recognized test of any scientific theory is the thorough, honest attempt to disprove it.

All I'm saying Ravager is if we want to understand everything we see, we have to first understand everything that makes it be. Otherwise it'll just seem like it's wrong.
That statement doesn't just apply to balancing a hammer held by a ruler.
It applies to everything. Including how we should see other people.
Without sharing the same definition of a god as you, we can both agree that a god wouldn't make things wrong. A god would make things that work right, no matter how complicated.

BTW, I don't believe you are wrong Ravager. I believe you are right to believe in what you do based on what you've seen, and how things relate. There is nothing wrong with that. We are all like that. It's how we come to be who we are.
It's just not the end of our journey. There is always more to see and more to understand so that what we believe to be true is defined more accurately.

Many scientists believe in god. Albert Einstein believed in god. It's just his view of god became more and more defined as he learned more. He said it was far more profound than many people could realize. The more we learn the less we take it for granted and the more we appreciate it's nature.
